Teapot Demonstration Masterclass with John Jelfs.

Saturday 15th March

This Demonstration Masterclass will be led by studio potter, John Jelfs, from Cotswold Pottery.

With over 30 years of experience, John’s work has been exhibited at leading galleries worldwide including the Victoria and Albert Museum and Galerie Besson. John enjoys creating pots with strength and subtlety by focusing on pure forms with minimal decoration. Every pot is hand-thrown and decorated with celadon, ochre and Shino stoneware glazes made from ash and clay local to his studio. John also soda-fires his work and has a large woodfired kiln at the Whichford Pottery.

For this masterclass, John will demonstrate how to throw and assemble the most challenging of forms: the teapot. John will share his techniques for mastering the proportions necessary to produce functional teapots to the highest standard. He will also show a range of surface decoration techniques, all of which can be put into practice in your studio. Please note that as this is a one-day masterclass, the majority of the time will be spent with John demonstrating. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions about glazes, firing, clay bodies, as well as forms, which can boost your skills as a potter!
