Clay College are delighted to offer the opportunity to advance your throwing skills in a weekend masterclass with Sabine Nemet.

Participants will explore thrown and altered functional-ware including oval dishes, butter dishes and other forms such as lids for square dishes. As well as the practical elements of the masterclass, participants will benefit from Sabine’s extensive knowledge through throwing demonstrations and discussions about how she fires her kiln.

The class is led by Sabine Nemet, who produces soda-glazed functional- ware. Sabine completed her apprenticeship in East Germany in 1998 which comprised of a three-year-long training placement in producing domestic-ware exclusively on the potter’s wheel. Sabine mixes her own clay, working mainly with thrown pieces and altered elements. She uses soda and ash in her wood kiln to create interesting reactions with the surface and slips to form her glaze.

Numbers are limited to 14.

Please note: we will provide tea, coffee, biscuits, and fruit, but lunch is not provided. The Middleport Café is open or you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and eat in the students’ lunchroom and there are tables by the canal for if the weather is fine.

Clay College is a not-for-profit organisation. By attending this masterclass, you are supporting the next generation of studio potters.
