Join us this November to learn how to create amazing forms without the use of a potters’ wheel in our hand-building course!

Taught by resident potter and Clay College Technician, Will Broughton, participants will learn how to create professional-looking pots using slab and coiling techniques.

In this evening block, students will work with red earthenware, commonly known as terracotta. This clay is synonymous with Stoke-on-Trent and was often decorated with a liquid clay called slip. Unleash your inner creativity and decorate and form exciting shapes in this relaxed and small group setting.

Over 6 weeks, students will hand-build their pots, decorate them with slip, and glaze with a simple transparent glaze to allow the slip decoration to really shine. By the end of the course, students will have gained invaluable tips and tricks to create hand-built pots as well as an introduction into slip decoration.

This set of classes will run every Monday from 6-9 pm starting on 4th November and finishing on 9th December. All tools and materials will be provided, but please bring an apron and a towel to use during the class.

Please note: students must allow time towards the end of the class to clean their work space and leave the premises by no later than 9.00 pm.
